When the Shepherd Needs a Shepherd

There’s a quiet crisis in the Church.

Not in doctrine, not in strategy—but in the hearts of those called to lead.

Pastors are burning out.

They’re leading while lonely. Preaching while depleted. Counseling others while secretly bleeding inside. And no one sees it—because most pastors have learned how to keep going, even when their soul is barely hanging on.

Ministry is beautiful. But it’s also brutal.

I’ve sat with ministry couples, too exhausted to dream again. I’ve wept with leaders who still love Jesus but wonder if they can make it one more Sunday. I’ve heard the quiet desperation in their voices, and I’ve felt it in mine.

This isn’t just a leadership issue. It’s a soul issue.
It’s why Heart For Pastors (HFP) was born

Not as a program. Not as a conference. But as a place—a Gospel-centered space for healing, rest, and strategic re-entry into ministry. A place where brokenness isn’t a disqualification, but an invitation.

A Gospel-Centered Vision for Renewal

Heart For Pastors exists to shepherd the shepherds. To create a path of hope for pastors, spouses, missionaries, and elder teams who feel stuck, stretched thin, or spiritually drained.

Our vision is built on four levels—each one rooted in compassion and grounded in the Gospel.

Facing the Crisis of Burnout

You can’t heal what you don’t name.

Burnout among pastors isn’t rare—it’s rising. Recent studies show that nearly half of all pastors have considered quitting. Many feel isolated, overwhelmed, and spiritually dry. And it’s not just the pastors—it’s their spouses, their families, their leadership teams.

Ministry is holy work, but it comes with heavy weight: spiritual warfare, pressure to perform, unmet expectations, the loneliness of leadership, and often a lack of safe space to process it all.

Heart For Pastors acknowledges that reality. We see the pain. And we say, you don’t have to carry it alone.

A Path to Healing—Body and Soul

Rest doesn’t come from simply stopping. It comes from being restored.

At HFP, we offer physical and spiritual counseling that cares for the whole person. Our model integrates:

  • Professional counseling for mental and emotional health
  • Spiritual direction from trusted ministry leaders
  • Time to rest and reflect in a setting where nothing is expected of you

We believe that what God wants to do in you is just as important as what He wants to do through you. And healing doesn’t happen with a quick fix—it happens through honesty, safety, and soul care.

A Sacred Space: A Barndominium of Excellence

The environment matters. That’s why we’re building something that feels both beautiful and intentional—a retreat space designed to whisper peace.

We’re creating a high-level barndominium, nestled in a quiet, soul-soothing setting. It’s not extravagant, but it’s excellent. Comfortable. Sacred. Private. The kind of place where you can finally exhale.

Just as Jesus withdrew to quiet places, we believe pastors need space to step away—away from pressure, away from noise, into presence.

Not Just Recovery—Strategic Re-Engagement

Our goal isn’t just rest. It’s renewed mission.

We help pastors move forward—with clarity, courage, and community. That’s why every experience at HFP includes follow-up coaching and resources for long-term health:

  • Tools for sustaining soul care
  • Guidance for building healthier leadership rhythms
  • Support for elder boards and church structures
  • Ongoing care for pastoral marriages and families

Because healing isn’t complete until everyone involved can walk forward in freedom.

The Shepherd Still Belongs to the Shepherd

Here’s what I need you to hear today, whether you’re a pastor, a spouse, or a weary church leader:

You matter to God—not for what you produce, but because you’re His.

The calling is real. The cost is heavy. But the grace of Jesus is greater.

Heart For Pastors is here to help you breathe again. To help you remember who you are. To help you find healing, rest, and new strength for the road ahead.

If you need a place to start or would like to partner with us in this vision, let’s talk.

Because sometimes, the shepherd needs a shepherd too.
And Jesus never stops coming for His own.
